Progress on the maintenance for well #3 is ongoing. The well pipe has been moved offsite and is undergoing inspection and reconditioning. The reconditioning process may take 2-4 weeks depending upon the amount of work needed for the well casing pipe.
During this period the Village has continued to need to use well #1 to supplement the deep well #4 for distribution. Due to the unseasonably warm and dry weather well #1 has had to supplement the distribution system for 14-16 hours a day, resulting in an increase in the amount of hard water with high amounts of iron and other dissolved solids.
The water going out to distribution continues to meet IEPA drinking water standards, but the increased amount of dissolved solids may result in discolored water for some residents. Precipitation of solids within the water most often occurs from the hot water line or from water that has been standing in pipes for an extended period.
Water plant operators are currently looking into feasible options to mitigate some of the iron and dissolved solids from well #1.
