The project contractor has advised the Village they will begin work on the 47th Street storm sewer crossing starting the week of 3/6. The Contractor will be working off roadway just north of 47th Street and west of Commonwealth Drive. No major work on Central Avenue is anticipated for the next several weeks as the contractor will be focusing their efforts on installing the new storm sewer starting at Flagg Creek and working back eastward with the storm sewer along the north side of 47th Street.
The storm sewer work that is to begin next week will require the westbound right lane on 47th Street to be closed for several weeks to facilitate construction of the storm sewer. The right lane closure on westbound 47th Street is expected to be between Central Avenue and I-294. The sewer crossing work under 47th Street is being done via pipe jacking and boring. The Contractor will dig a jacking pit on the north side of 47th Street. The jacking pit location will require the temporary closure of the new concrete pedestrian bike path that leads to the pedestrian bridge over I-294. The pedestrian bridge will be temporary closed starting Monday March 6 to facilitate construction of the storm sewer. The Contractor will install a temporary stone path early next week that will serve as a temporary connection between the Spring Rock Park path and the pedestrian bridge. It is anticipated that the pedestrian bridge will reopen by the end of the week.
