The Village of Western Springs has continued to monitor the water quality situation in the Ridgewood Subdivision over the past several months. During August the Village was able to bring online the permanent chemical feed system at the water plant for the sodium hypo-chloride, or chlorine system.
Recent samples from areas within the subdivision over the past several weeks have shown some improvement in the water quality in the subdivision. Iron levels have gone down substantially from earlier measurements in June and July, but are still higher than the iron levels that are measured when the water leaves the plant to the distribution system.
Adjustments will be made to the chemical feed system as more of the equipment comes online in the coming weeks. Staff will also be monitoring changes in the water as it completes the hydrant flushing process throughout the community, which should assist in pulling sediment and iron out of the distribution system.
