Woodland/Ogden Crosswalk Relocated as Part of Wolf Road Bike Path Project

March 2022 update: The existing crosswalk located on Ogden/Woodland has been removed and relocated to a new, safer crossing at Ogden/Wolf, which connects directly to the new path. Please abide by the new crosswalk going forward.

The bike path along Wolf Road through the Bemis Woods Forest Preserve is nearly complete. This project, which began in approximately 2015 as a collaboration between IDOT, the Forest Preserves of Cook County, and the Cook County Highway Department, will connect Western Springs to the existing Bemis Woods bike path system, located just south of Salt Creek. The Village secured a grant through the federal Surface Transportation Program (STP) to improve pedestrian safety and provide for an alternative to the existing, uncontrolled crossing at Woodland and Ogden Avenues.

Since the installation of the rapid flashing beacons at Woodland Avenue, there have been multiple incidents, prompting the Village to pursue a safer crossing alternative in coordination with neighboring agencies. The new, IDOT-approved crossing at Ogden Avenue is designed to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists, and will be located to the west side of the Wolf Road intersection. The existing crosswalk located on Ogden at Woodland Avenue will be removed, with signage posted to direct pedestrians and cyclists to the Ogden and Wolf crossing, which connects directly to the new path.
