Village Manager Ingrid Velkme to Retire

Ingrid Velkme will retire as Village Manager of the Village of Western Springs on Friday, September 17, 2021. Ingrid began her career in public service in 1987 as an intern in Western Springs. During her career she served the Village of Indian Head Park as Village Administrator, the Village of Wheeling as Assistant Village Manager, and the Intergovernmental Risk Management Agency. Ingrid returned to the Village of Western Springs to become the Deputy Village Manager/Director of Administrative Services, and then the first female Village Manger in the Village’s history, a position she’s held for over four years. Ingrid was also a founding member of the Legacy Project - an effort started by a group of women from various levels of public service in 2011 - dedicated to the advancement of women in public leadership in local and state government.

Ingrid holds a Master of Arts Degree in Public Administration from Northern Illinois University, is a member of the International City and County Manager’s Association (ICMA), and the Illinois City Manager’s Association (ILCMA). The President and Trustees, administration, and staff of the Village of Western Springs wish to congratulate Ingrid on more than thirty years as a public service professional in municipal government and wish her well in her retirement.  While the Board chooses her successor, they will name an interim Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Village. Deputy Village Manager Casey Biernacki will fill the interim role.
