BNSF Project Details

There are two BNSF projects in the Village that residents should be aware of:

West Underpass project

BNSF began work on the West Underpass, as of Monday, June 21. There will be construction and parking impacts on Hillgrove Avenue, in the commuter parking spaces west of Central Avenue. Temporary parking closures on south side of Hillgrove Avenue near the Western Springs Service Club are also anticipated while the work is underway. The BNSF will be driving sheet pile, in preparation for the Village's contractor, who will begin work later this summer. Significant noise for the pile driving is anticipated. BNSF anticipates weekday work hours between 9:00 am – 2:30 pm daily, and it is likely that weekend work will also take place from 7:00 am – 7:00 pm. No night work is anticipated.

Wolf Road Railroad Crossing Repair Work

Burlington North Sante Fe (BNSF) will be working on the Wolf Road intersection railroad crossing from Thursday July 15 - Sunday, July 25. This project, now largely complete, included a full closure of the intersection, to vehicles and pedestrians. The staging area for the project will include the southeast side of Wolf Road, from Wolf to Franklin. During construction there will be significant increase in train whistle use in the interest of safety.

To facilitate traffic flow on other area streets, the WSPD will restrict the following street parking, beginning July 15: no parking on the west side of Lawn and Grand from Burlington to 47th, and no parking on the east side of Lawn to Chestnut. No parking areas will be marked. This is a BNSF project and is not under the Village's purview. Any questions/complaints should be directed to the BNSF Resource Operation Command Center at 1-800-832-5452.
