Water Meter Replacement Program

Water Resources Logo

The Village of Western Springs, at no cost to residents, is replacing obsolete, manual read water meters and/or external reading devices with new advanced metering infrastructure (AMI).  Water meters will be read automatically via a radio transmitter mounted on the outside of the structure.  The new Neptune equipment will increase efficiency, improve water accountability, and provide more current and accurate information to consumers.  The Village has contracted with Water Resources, Inc. and its affiliated company, Water Services Co., to replace all water meters 7 years or older, and all exterior endpoints.

To date, approximately 750 water meters and/or exterior endpoints have been replaced. Equipment replacement is underway in Old Town North and Field Park. Residents will receive a letter from Water Resources, with the Village logo on it, when it is time to schedule their appointment. Night and weekend appointments are available, and appointments typically take less than one hour to complete. All residents will need to make an appointment regardless of the age of their water meter. At the time of the appointment, an installer from Water Services Company will arrive in a truck with their company logo to complete the water meter and/or endpoint replacement.

Water Resources is moving throughout the Village according to the outline below. They are currently working on scheduling appointments in Routes One through Three. Please keep in mind that neighbors may not receive letters at the same time as Water Resources is making appointments according to meter size. The routes below are illustrated on the project map.

Routes One and Two: Old Town North

Route Three: Field Park

Route Four: Old Town South and Ridge Acres

Route Five: Springdale

Route Six: Forest Hills

Route Seven: Commonwealth and Ridgewood

Once fifty percent of water meters and/or exterior endpoints have been replaced, the Village will roll out the Neptune My360 customer portal. This portal will improve customer service by providing the ability to view water consumption 24/7, create usage alerts, and set a water budget. Easy to read charts and graphs help consumers detect potential leaks and unplanned water usage faster.

More information will be made available in the coming weeks.
