The Annual Tower Trot is held on the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend.  The 2023 race will be held on May 27th, 2023.

Saturday, May 27th, 2023

Run for the fun and for the benefits: Your health (exercise), Healing Hearts for Ashley Foundation (fundraising) and maybe your pride (awards). The 46th Annual Tower Trot will be held rain or shine on Saturday, May 27, 2023. Open to all ages and abilities using CARA age categories for awards. Registration is required and includes t-shirt, refreshments and entertainment. This is a chip-timed race.  This race is timed and scored by J3 Timing.

Race Agenda

Date: Saturday, May 27, 2023

Time:            8:30 am — 10K (6.2 mile) and Double Run (10K and 5K)

                     8:45 am — *Fun Run (< a mile)

                     9:30 am — 5K (3.1 mile)

Start/Finish: Grand Avenue Community Center, 4211 Grand Avenue, Western Springs, IL 60558

*The Fun Run Start is at Chestnut and Grand; the Finish is at Official Finish Line on Lawn Ave.

Course cutoff time: 11:00 am


Refund Policy

$5 cancellation fee (contact the Recreation Department at 708-246-9070 to process the refund)

No refunds after 3 PM on May 26, 2023

Inclement Weather Policy

Race goes on rain or shine unless start delayed due to lightning up to an hour. No refunds if race is cancelled due to severe weather.

Strollers/Baby, Joggers, Pets, Bikes, Skates, etc.

Pets, bicycles, in-line skates, roller skates, scooters, and any other wheeled item are prohibited.  Participation with service animals, wheelchairs or hand cranks by disabled participants are allowed. If strollers or baby joggers are used, they are required to start in the rear of the start corral.

Awards

An award ceremony will be held at the end of the race. Categories are:

Open Age Group Categories for both the 10K & 5K runs, Male & Female
Top overall winners for each gender is based off gun time.

Walker category (5K only) 

Medals awarded for 1st/Gold, 2nd/Silver, 3rd/Bronze for all age categories listed.
Top three for each age category is done by chip time.

THE DOUBLE AWARDS

“The Double” is a separate category for participants who run in both 10K and 5K, male & female categories.  The winners are determined by cross country scoring of each race (10K + 5K).  Participants are eligible for individual age category awards in both races.

Registration

Preregistration 

Register at https://runsignup.com/Race/IL/WesternSprings/WesternSpringsTowerTrot Registration will be open until 15 minutes prior to Start time of each race. Kiosks will be available for registration at the Grand Avenue Gym Friday, May 26th, 8AM-6PM and on Race Day starting at 7 AM. Payment can be made by cash, check or credit card at that time.

Tower Trot race day registration is going GREEN!  We recommend that you preregister for the Tower Trot Race online prior to the race. On race day, you will be asked to register online at a kiosk in the Grand Gym, or on your phone. No paper forms will be available. You will still have the option to pay by credit card, check, or cash. 


Race Day

Register in person starting at 7:00 am at the Grand Avenue Community Center, 4211 Grand Avenue, Western Springs. 10K, "The Double" and Fun Run registrations are open until 8:15 am and 5K registration is open until 9:15 am. Late arrivals on race day will not be eligible for awards.

Race Packets

Prior to race day, numbers, t-shirts and information can be picked up at the Grand Avenue Community Center gym during the following hours:

    8:00 am – 6:00 pm on Friday, May 26, 2023     

On race day, race packets will  be available at Grand Avenue Community Center. Doors open at 7:00 am.

If you did not pick up your award on Race Day, they will be available at the front desk of the Recreation Center, 1500 Walker, on Thursday, June 1st, after Noon. A $5 fee will be charged, if you would like your award mailed to you.

Healing Hearts for Ashley Foundation

The Western Springs Tower Trot will be partnering with the Healing Hearts for Ashley Foundation.  Ashley Jurjovec, a former Western Springs middle school teacher, passed away suddenly from a genetic heart condition called Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy (ARVC) in May of 2016.  The Healing Hearts for Ashley Foundation was founded in honor and memory of Ashley Jurjovec in 2017.  The foundation is committed to raising awareness for ARVC and to support research for The Cardiovascular Genetics Group at Lurie Children's Hospital as they work to identify families with inherited risk of sudden death and improve clinical and genetic assessment for those families.

Grand Avenue Community Center, 4211 Grand Avenue, Western Springs, IL—From TriState Tollway 294 exit Ogden Ave east, to Grand Avenue. Turn right on Grand Avenue and the GACC is three blocks from Ogden Avenue, on your left.


Parking

From Wolf Road & Ogden Avenue - Go South on Wolf Rd to RR tracks and park on either side of RR tracks. Historic Water Tower is on north side of RR tracks just west of Wolf Rd. Follow signs north to Grand Avenue Center on Race Day for START/FINISH.
