Camps
The Recreation Department offers various camps throughout the summer and late summer. Staff consists of a combination of college and high school students. All staff are CPR-trained and are given a first aid review. Camps are held at an indoor location on rain days.
JUST FOR TOTS CAMP is for ages 3.5 to 5 years. It’s great summer fun while socializing with friends in their neighborhood park! Campers enjoy participating in organized activities designed to promote fun, play, exercise, and creativity. Participants enjoy games, songs, stories, art projects, and entertainment and/or special guests. Exciting summer themes make the activities even more appealing to young campers! Two 3-week sessions are offered for summer and the late summer session is 3 weeks.
TOWER CAMP is for ages 5-1/2 to 8 years. School age children enjoy organized activities designed to promote socialization, self-esteem, creativity, and fun! Summer themes add excitement to the games, art projects, songs, stories, special events, entertainment and/or special guests. Children should wear gym shoes and outfits suited for active play and messy art projects. Two 3-week sessions are offered for summer and the late summer session is 3 weeks.
All campers should bring a backpack with their name on it with the following items to each day of camp: peanut free snack and water bottle, a set of crayons and markers, scissors and glue.
SAFETY VILLAGE is for children entering kindergarten and first grade in the fall. This exciting program will teach children 55 different facets of safety in the most fun way. The children will delight in driving pedal cars through the streets of a miniature Western Springs practicing good safety mixed with lessons, songs, movies and live characters. Each child will make a real 911 call, hop up on a fire truck, a police car and an ambulance, practice “escaping” from a fire safety house, be entertained by lifesaving lessons by Cinders the Fire Dog Show, Beltman, Buckle Bear, McGruff, Sparky and uniformed police and fire department personnel. There is also an option to sign up for a Safety Village/Tower Camp Combo Camp that includes Safety Village as well as a three hour camp for a full three weeks of fun and learning.
Also, look for Safety Days in the Fall Brochure, where Safety Village opens its gates to 4-year old children as they explore “the Village” and have fun learning important safety skills with our Fire and Police Departments. All children will have a chance to ‘drive’ around Safety Village in the safety cars as well as be visited by some of our favorite safety characters and robots.
