Water Infrastructure Improvement Updates
Elevated Tank Maintenance and Repainting
The elevated tank repainting project for the Village of Western Springs was financed by the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (SRF). The SRF program is administered by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and receives a portion of its money to fund these types of projects from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. This project includes blast cleaning and repainting the interior and exterior exposed surfaces of the tank. Once complete, it will improve water quality for area residents and businesses in Western Springs by maintaining the standpipe structure. SRF programs operate in each state to provide communities the resources necessary to build, maintain, and improve the infrastructure that protects one of our most valuable resources: water.
Interior maintenance was completed Fall 2022 with exterior maintenance to continue in spring 2022. Project updates can be found on the Municipal Services' project page at: News Flash • Western Springs, IL • Municipal Services Department
Rose & Grove Reconstruction and Watermain Replacement
Rose Avenue and Grove Avenue were selected as a 2021 roadway reconstruction candidates. Roadway improvement projects are identified and prioritized based upon the Village's numerical ranking system (MPCI) for streets along with available funding.
The reconstruction of the roadway will be funded utilizing the Village's 2016 Roadway Referendum funds, which were approved by the residents for the reconstruction of streets within the Village. The funds can only be utilized for roadway improvements and cannot be utilized towards other infrastructure.
The Village is installing a new 8” water main on Rose Avenue (Maple to Oak) and Grove Avenue (Maple to Chestnut) to replace the existing 4" water main. The installation of the new water main fully funded by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) loan program and was completed during Fall 2021. There will be additional fire hydrant replacement and water valve maintenance occurring in other areas of the project where water main is not being replaced.

Well #5 Construction
The Well #5 construction project for the Village of Western Springs was financed by the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (SRF). The SRF program is administered by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and receives a portion of its money to fund these types of projects from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. This project included the drilling of a new deep well in Field Park along with the construction of a new transmission main from the well to the water treatment plant. The project was completed summer 2021 with the planting coming to full operation through the treatment plan in January 2022. The project intent is to improve the Village's overall water production output and emergency water capabilities. SRF programs operate in each state to provide communities the resources necessary to build, maintain, and improve the infrastructure that protects one of our most valuable resources: water.
