Recreation

Programs & Registration
The Recreation Department offers activities and classes for all age groups. Residents are encouraged to become active in our programs. The seasonal program brochure is mailed out to all residents in March, August, and November.  You may print a registration form and register in person, through the mail or by fax (708-246-1309) (we do not accept registration online or by phone). League and facility schedules, registration forms, and other Recreation information are available through the links on the left.

Programs for the disabled are made available through a joint agreement with South East Association for Special Parks and Recreation (SEASPAR).

5K/10K Tower Trot
The department's largest annual event is the 5K/10K Tower Trot (CARA certified), which attracts more than 1,200 runners annually on the fourth Saturday in May. The Tower Trot is one of the premier events of its kind in the Chicago area.

WANTED:
The Recreation Dept. is seeking volunteers for our annual Halloween party on Wednesday, October 29 at the Rec Center, 1500 Walker.  Volunteers will run simple games and must be able to work from 4:30-6:30 pm.  Minimum age requirement is 5th grade--both boys and girls are welcome!  Scouting groups must provide a volunteer leader. If you are interested in volunteering or would like more information, please email or call 246-9070 ext. 426 by Friday, Oct 17th.

NOTICE:

The Recreation Department gym at 1500 Walker will be closed from September 22 through October 20 for installation of a new hardwood floor.  If the gym is ready before October 20, we will update the website.  Open gym fees and facility rental fees have increased as of September 1 to help defray this cost.   Open gym is free for youths in elementary school.  High school students and older pay a $5 fee (both residents and non-residents): You must sign in at the front desk with a valid ID or you will be denied admittance.  There is no fee for seniors or parents accompanying their children 8th grade or younger.  You can inquire of the new facility rental fees by calling the Rec Department at 708-246-9070 or emailing .


Parks
The 11 parks in the village also host an assortment of recreational activities sponsored by the Recreation Department. The parks are owned and maintained by the Western Springs Park District, which is a separate taxing authority. For more information on the Park District, please visit their website.
