The Recreation Department is responsible for a wide array of programs for residents of all ages and interests. Programs for the disabled are made available through a joint agreement with SEASPAR. A popular program of activities for senior citizens are also offered, as is a subsidized taxi service available for those age 65 and over. The department's largest annual event is the 5K-10K Tower Trot, which attracts more than 1,500 runners annually and is seen as one of the premier events of its kind in the Chicago area. The event is held on the fourth Saturday of May each year.
The department also manages summer day camps for kids age 2 and up, and special camps that focus on particular sports of interest to children, such as basketball, baseball and tennis.
Registration for programs is not available online; however, the seasonal brochure is available below and contains the registration form.
The two recreational centers are the Recreation Center at 1500 Walker and Grand Avenue Community Center at 4211 Grand. The 11 parks in the Village also host an assortment of recreational activities sponsored by the Recreation Department. The parks are owned and maintained by the Western Springs Park District, which is a separate taxing authority. For more information on the Park District, please visit wsparks.org.
