The Western Springs Explorer Post 740 was founded in the 1977. The post was created with the intent to give youth, with an interest in law enforcement, an opportunity to learn about the law enforcement profession and develop positive relationships with officers.
The explorers receive instruction from experienced police officers called advisors. Explorers may participate in police ride-a-longs, radio training, state and national competitions with other explorer posts and also assist patrol officers with special events.
The Western Springs Police Explorer Program accepts girls and boys between the ages of 14-21 years of age. Graduation from 8th grade is a requirement. Applicants must be of good moral character and have a strong interest in the law enforcement profession. Applicants must have no criminal convictions. The Western Springs Police Department Explorers Post 740 is not for troubled youth. Explorers also have the opportunity to observe police officers while they are working within the community.
Post 740 meets at the Village Hall at 740 Hillgrove. The Post meets every 3 weeks on various dates from 7 to 9 pm during the school year.
The Post also has an annual fundraiser selling the Entertainment and Gold C Savings Coupon Books. This fundraiser begins in November of every year and the books are available at the front desk of the Police Department.
If you are interested in joining the program, please fill out an Application and return it to Village of Western Springs, Police 740 Explorer Program, 740 Hillgrove Avenue, Western Springs, IL 60558.
