The Western Springs Police Department has two full-time sworn police officers assigned to the schools within the Village. The School Liaison Officer is assigned to Lyons Township High School South Campus. This program is a cooperative effort with the school district. The liaison officer does more than patrol the school. Students learn to trust police officers through their experiences. The officer builds unique relationships with the students which has a positive impact on the kids and their communities.
The School Resource Officer is assigned to elementary and junior high schools and is trained to perform two major roles: law enforcement officer and law-related educator. In addition, the officer works in collaboration with the schools and the community in maintaining a safe and secure environment through additional programs. The programs are designed to help students develop good decision-making skills and include Operation Lifesaver-Railroad Safety, Internet Safety, Bicycle Safety, Stranger Safety and Drug, Alcohol and Tobacco Awareness.
