Stormwater pollution is a challenging water quality problem and the most common cause of water pollution. Unlike pollution from industry or sewage treatment facilities, stormwater pollution is caused by the daily activities of people everywhere. Runoff from rain and snow picks up fertilizers, dirt, pesticides, oil and grease, flows into the storm drains and empties into the local waterways.
Recognizing this, EPA developed materials to educate the public about the pollutants that mix with rain and snow runoff and solutions to change people's behavior on the use of those pollutants. Links are provided below for key reference documents from the EPA.
