Persons interested in a law enforcement career with the Village of Western Springs may fill out an Applicant Notification Form. The Police Department will keep the form on file and will notify the applicant when an employment opportunity exists or is anticipated.

  • Must be between the ages of 20 and 34 at the time of application deadline (unless statutorily exempted by 65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-6).
  • Must be a citizen of the United States.
  • Must have obtained a high school diploma or have an equivalent high school education.
  • Must have an associate's degree from an accredited college or university or must have successfully completed and received a passing grade in at least 60 hours of college-level course work from an accredited college or university.
  • Must have a current and valid POWER Test Card dated within 12 months prior to application deadline.
  • Must be in good physical health.
  • Must be of good moral character.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must not have tattoos that would be visible in whole or in part while wearing any uniform apparel of the department.
  • Must have no felony convictions.
  • Must submit online application and required documentation.
  • Must pay $35 application fee.
  • Must attend mandatory orientation session (no exceptions) and pass all phases of the testing process.
  • Must participate in an eight hour ride-along with a police officer during the background investigation portion of the hiring process. The ride-along will be scheduled by the agency at that time.
  • The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners require all employees to enter into an expense reimbursement agreement upon hire.
